San Juan Worm Micro Red<\/strong> is an aquatic worm imitation tied with a micro chenille and mounted with no added weight at all, for a slow descent and a completely natural drift.<\/p>\n

The San Juan Worm<\/strong> is one of the oldest and most effective imitations in fly fishing: it copies the aquatic worms that live in the riverbed and that the current constantly washes loose. It is a food item trout know well, do not associate with danger, and will take even when they refuse everything else.<\/p>\n

This Micro<\/strong> version uses a special chenille, 1 mm on the smaller sizes and 2 mm on the larger ones<\/strong>, for a slim, realistic profile that the far bulkier classic versions simply do not have.<\/p>\n

No added weight<\/strong>: no bead, no lead. The fly sinks slowly and follows the current seam without being dragged, which makes it right for the long dead drift<\/strong> over difficult fish on big rivers, where a weighted fly behaves unnaturally and puts them down.<\/p>\n

Colour Red<\/h3>\n

Red is the original San Juan Worm and still the benchmark: it is the colour of the living worm and it works in every condition, from gin-clear to slightly coloured water.<\/p>\n

How to fish it<\/h3>\n

  • On a long dead drift:<\/strong> on fine, long leaders, letting it drift freely with no retrieve. This is where it does its best work on wild, wary fish.<\/li>\n
  • Under an indicator:<\/strong> suspended in the seam, with the depth set close to the bottom.<\/li>\n
  • As a point fly:<\/strong> below a weighted nymph, when you need to reach the bottom without giving up a slim profile.<\/li>\n
  • After a spate:<\/strong> when the current has worked the riverbed and worms are drifting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
